The Epiphany toilet. Let your mind wander.

Any idea why most of your original ideas come when you are showering, or on the pot, or going on a long walk alone or going on a long drive?

When your body is doing some task on autopilot, it is the perfect time for the brain to drift into its imaginative state. To make hitherto unmade connections. To link topics never linked before, to amalgamate various bits of information into a cohesive understanding.

But that has completely changed since the arrival of the smartphone. All of these ’empty spaces’ or (‘mental parks’ if you will) where your mind used to wander, stroll and frolic, have been replaced with cinemas, casinos, malls and every addictive pursuit possible. The mind has no time to be bored. And no time to be imaginative.

Who knows how many epiphanies / revolutionary ideas were lost because you are too busy scrolling through your social media feed? The last three topics I wrote about came to me and formed into a seed of an idea while I was showering.

So please keep your epiphany zones empty. Give a shit about the next time you take a shit. Let your mind wander and then discover new connections your mind was waiting to make. You will thank yourself for it.

p.s. The title of this post is inspired by a ‘Scrubs’ episode of the same name. Look it up, it is a hilarious one!
