Choose your inputs

You are the average of the five people you hang out with the most.”

But now that you are spending most of our attention staring at screens watching videos or reading stuff, you are the average of the five pieces of media or five channels of information you consume or the five apps you open regularly.

Choose your input very very carefully. “You are what you consume” applies even more so for information.

Go deeper into fewer sources (YouTube channels, authors, books, podcasts, business icons etc) that you have identified as exceptional and knowledgable. Become ‘friends’ with them via their content, instead of going wide and aligning to the average.

The algorithms of social media don’t optimise for wisdom in your feed; they optimise for engagement, which is usually driven by outrage or clickbait.
